Updates and passive creativity

Ok, so it's been a while. Who knew being an office manager for 5 or 6 businesses would keep a girl so busy. Guess that's what happens when your boss is a master of taking on more and more businesses.

Over the past few weeks, my personal projects have been pushed aside... first in the garage... then to my kitchen. Yes, my dressers I am in the process of making over are being stored in my KITCHEN. Why? Well, because that BMW I mentioned my husband had to wait on because of buying a house became a reality.

Pretty, huh? He even let me drive it a couple times. Reese has been enjoying it, too.

I did manage to sneak in a creative project for work, so it hasn't been so bad. It involved a lot of spray painting of picture frames, and my finger is finally regaining feeling 2 or 3 weeks later.

Other than that, I have my amazing and passive creative outlet in my backyard.

My garden. This being my first garden, I am absolutely obsessed and impressed. I always helped my mom with a garden growing up, but I was never as excited about it as I am now. In the few weeks since I took this photo, my garden has exploded. The 4 tomato plants are now falling over from the weight of 10+ HUGE tomatoes. Think large softball size... and still growing. We are going to make some wicked salsa. My favorite and most fruitful plant is my jalapeno. This thing amazes me. I have gotten 10+ peppers... currently I counted at least 17 that will be ready soon. This plant is a real champ. If that doesn't sound like enough peppers, the hot pepper seeds I planted also shot up some nice plants that are already starting to produce more. Sorry, I'm rambling... I'm just so excited!

Here's my harvest so far:

Zucchini!
Jalapenos!Cucumber!

Of course, the best part is eating them! There's been plenty of cucumber water, zucchini in everything, and hot hot chili and tacos.

Now if I could just get those dressers out of the kitchen...

The Life of a (Sort Of) Design Student

First, a little about me.

My name is Becca. I'm currently an interior design major with a previous degree in Accounting. Odd mix, I know. As far as the interior design thing goes... it's fun to learn and it's nice to get the creative education and energy it offers... but it's not for me. I'm your typical shy girl, that sits alone in the office all day at work, and is completely content with the occasional chat with a friend at work, but has no desire to deal with strangers all day. I always figured that even if I didn't decide to go into a design career, I'd at least have an awesome looking house because of it.

So here's a little bit about my life currently:

I married my best friend about a year ago. He wanted a BMW, I wanted a house. So, being the amazing husband he is, we bought our first house a month ago.

We also welcomed our first dogchild a week ago. Her name is Reese.

Over the winter, thanks to too much time on my hands, the desire for a project, and the love of furniture, I snatched up a little chair that started an obsession. This is what it started out as:

My friend and I found this little baby in a barn advertised on Craigslist that had all kinds of junk in it. It was super cute with loads of potential (although my husband wasn't so sure). It just so happened to fit into my 2-door Chevy Cavalier, so I took it home. After two nights of nonstop sanding, and a few more sitting in the bathroom with the ventilation fan on to help with the fumes of staining and varnishing, it is now a lovely addition to my living room.

My husband was feeling a little better after it was done, but he's not a fan of the fabric, so it's a work in progress until I can reupholster it.

Since the chair, I've been itching to do some more. I promise the pictures of the next projects will be much better, as soon as I find which box I packed my camera in.

Until then, I'll be working hard on my next project.
